When You Reach Me

Last week I got to go with my sister Ruth to a book signing, the author was Rebecca Stead. We all met in the ballroom of the Provo library where she was given a warm welcome. After she told little of her self and people got the chance to ask her questions, she was lead to the signing room. We were left in  the ballroom and then they announced that if we had a red dot under our chair we won a free book. Of course our chairs did not have a sticker but, since no one was seating on the rows behind us I told Ruth go look under those before the people in front get to them. So her little shy self went over and started looking under the chairs, but she did't have to look for to long, on her 4th or 5th try she found a red dot. So, she had a free book, which was good, cause I almost bought her a book. We were in line for a little over an hour, which was good, because when we got there we were able to talk with her a little more and have Ruth take a picture with her. I even took a minute to ask her why it was she gave up being a lawyer to be a writer. She said she was very scared about her decision, especially with all her law school debt, that she even gave up a teaching job at NYU, but that it was something she really wanted to do and decided to take a risk. She was very nice and sweet, second writer I meet, and seems to have a great interest in being a great role model for kids.

Ruth's signed copy. So as I was asking my question she started to signed and then laughed and said: I just signed Hi Ruth! It is the first time ever that I sign a book this way, (laughs) Hi Ruth! Yours is one of a kind. I thought that was cute and funny at the same time, cause now my sister has a story to tell.
